RUBY
CARE
Rubies are a very tough and durable gemstone, suitable for
daily wear. They are appropriate for any type of jewelry.
Over time, rubies will show wear--abrasions on facet
junctions, scratches, and chips. Minor damage can usually
be repaired by repolishing; larger chips may require more
extensive recutting. If your ruby needs to be repolished or
recut, it will need to be removed from its setting and sent
to a professional facetter.
Rubies can be cleaned with any commercial jewelry cleaner,
or with a simple solution of detergent and ammonia. Use an
old toothbrush to clean the back of the stone between the
prongs, where soap and lotions tend to build up. If debris
has dried on, soak overnight in a very concentrated
solution of laundry powder and water before brushing.
